*Please contact Nikki at 503-750-4094 or email us at friendsofgrantfootball@gmail.com if you are able to help with set up and clean up at 4ish on Monday the 13th for event.

CALENDAR

December - February - College Recruiters will be visiting campus to talk to prospects.

January - The year-round calendar will be out sometime in the month of January for all players and parents so they can plan vacations, etc.

January - February - Player Evaluations will be underway...one on one with the head coach.

February - Every returning football player and Seniors playing in College "should" be enrolled in Speed-Strength class for the second semester...don't take "no" as an adequate answer. :)

February - College Signings for Senior Players

February - May - Players will be participating if invited to develop their skills on the 7-7 circuit.

March-May - Players should be participating in Track-Field if not participating in baseball - that is the expectation!

March - Team Camp information will be sent out to players and parents. (Start Saving money - cost is around $235-250).

March - May - Coaches will be attending Coaching Clinics and College Spring Practices.

May - Spring Football Practice - non padded.

June - Padded Practice and Team Camp (10 days consecutively)

June - July - 7 on 7 (Skill Players) for all levels on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and some weekend Tournaments / Summer workouts: Monday-Thursdays (8-10:30 a.m.) for ALL Players / Lineman Competitions (2) / Les Schwab All-Star Bowl @ Linfield College

July - Team Bonding Camp Overnight Trip (More information in April)

August - Youth Football Camp / Youth Coaches Clinic / Training Camp Week for High School Players prior to the start of the season / Start of Official Season

Generals:

We need to get stronger and physically and mentally. There are ways to achieve this...but they might be out one's "comfort zone". Participating in combative sports like "Wrestling" and Rugby and Lacrosse. Participating in Track to develop your athleticism - jumping...and speed! These sports are not easy...but...nothing worthwhile is achieved easily.

Take a look at the best players at the college and the NFL level...it is not a secret...that to get to that level takes sacrifice by players and even parents.  (If a student-athlete is interested in gaining a potential college scholarship (tough to come by)...they are limited in a lot of sports...however football has by far the most scholarships.)

There is a place for every player...a roll for every player...the "Life Lessons" learned are so valuable...keep recruiting - the more participants - the better. :)

Coaches Gifts:

We are hoping it has just slipped your mind as we have only received a few donations for coaches gifts. Please keep in mind that although the coaches are paid, the amount of time that they put in, no where near reflects what they should be getting. Coaching is a labor of love to these kids. We have 11 coaches and 2 honorary special needs coaches that come to every practice and game. All players are taught by the majority of coaches so we add all the gift donations together and divide equally. Please also keep in mind that this has been a VERY busy year for them. They started last October-April was one season and started back up in July until November.
Donate on the FOGF website: https://www.friendsofgrantfootball.com/give

Our 7/8 Grade team playing up to 8th grade plays Lake Oswego on Saturday at Hare Field in Hillsboro @ 7pm for round 1 of the playoffs and get to olay under the big lights this Saturday night

We know that's not a big draw for folks to drive to Hillsboro at 7pm but I thought it would be nice to have some players and coaches there to support them and coach the kids up.

Let’s Go Generals!!

Cost?? sponsorship contacts!

With a pandemic, Portland Public schools made great strides to make sure our players were able to play last season.  Having two seasons in one year made it difficult to find the complete support that we needed without hitting our families too hard for donations. We were generously given gift certificates to raffle off by the Moxie Hotel downtown. Instead of doing a raffle for money we’re going to offer up a fun weekend experience for 2,  for two nights, with a bottle of wine and $25 towards food and beverage and a complementary cocktail at check-in. This is for anyone to win that gives us a great contact to become a potential sponsor. All you have to do is email us with a business in our Grant Community with a name and number, along your name and number and we will do the rest!

New Youth Football President!

We are excited to announce our new Youth Football President Trent Carpenter. He is exactly what we have been looking for with great ties to the young football community. We know he will be fantastic!

Trent grew up in Lake Oswego and attended Washington State University, graduating in 1998.  He was involved in a variety of youth sports and began playing football in 3rd grade, and played through high school.  Playing youth football was an important part of my childhood, and was fortunate to have great coaches who focused on the fundamentals of the game, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

He met his wife Hillary at WSU, and they have two boys, Bronx and Pierce, 5th and 6th grade at Beverly Clearly.  He owns his own company which provides cutting systems for the forest products industry, and Hillary is an event planner.  They have lived in Northeast Portland since 2011, with a 3 year ex-pat stint in Chile from 2014-2016. Their family enjoys typical Northwest activities - hiking, skiing at Bachelor, and visiting local restaurants and breweries.

Many, many thanks to Josh Haley and Eric von Arx for stepping in to make sure the season happened this year for our young ones when our last president stepped down at the last minute.

Many More Thanks

One of the things that makes football special is the amount of people and pageantry it takes to make it happen. For a team to play we have-

-75 players
-13 coaches.
-1 Athletic Director
-1 Asst Director
-1 groundsKeeper
-3+ security
-3+ Administration
-2 ticket takers
-2 bus drivers
-1 announcer
-1 spotter
-1 scoreboard
-4 chains Crew
-4 refs
-2 trainers
-1 on field doctor
-3 parents for meal
-3 filmers for Hudl
-4+ for live stream crew
-1+ photographer
-12 board members
-And a partridge in a pear tree!

We are grateful for all the wonderful souls that keep the love of football alive in a time where doing something for someone besides yourself, gets harder and harder to find. Thank you.

Special Thanks to the parents on the FOGF Board that work the games for the live stream and Setting up all the games and meals. It’s a labor of love for sure.

We get asked a lot about Grant Gear. It can be bought in the school by your student, but stuff is limited due to shortages this year everywhere and trucking delivery issues. There is an embroidery cart next to the rock at Lloyd center that we paid to have the G and Stars logo available. You can take anything you want to have it embroidered on for a small fee.

Many thanks for a great year!

Grant Football showed their fortitude and worked hard for the win against Roosevelt. We had lots of Players out and lots of Players that stepped up. Great Job Generals!

PPS has New Covid-19 Vaccination Requirements of Spectators
- PPS is now requiring all "visitors", including those attending athletic events, show proof of vaccination OR a negative test result within the past 72 hours.  The message was sent out throughout the district on Thursday and I am still working on some more identifying language specifically around our students attending our games.  For the remainder of the fall season this will take place at all Volleyball and Football home games, for soccer, since we play varsity games off site or at Grant Park, we will not be able to manage that.  I do expect it to happen at soccer games on PPS campuses.  They are not yet sure if the same requirement will be in place for the students.

The Grant High athletic website is trying to be more up to date weekly with all necessary information for the community to know for our program. You can still always check FOGF site and OSAA for current game info!

(Grant Gear may change. Will let you know)

Enter to win Hotel Moxy Raffle!!
Cost?!- Sponsorship contacts!

With a pandemic, Portland Public schools made great strides to make sure our players were able to play last season.  Having two seasons in one year made it difficult to find the complete support that we needed without hitting our families too hard for donations. We were generously given gift certificates to raffle off by the Moxie Hotel downtown. Instead of doing a raffle for money we’re going to offer up a fun weekend experience for 2,  for two nights, with a bottle of wine, a $25 towards food and beverage and a complementary cocktail at check-in! This is for anyone to win that gives us a great contact to become a potential sponsor. All you have to do is email us with a business in our Grant Community with a name and number, along with your name and number and we will do the rest!

Email us at: admin@friendsgrantfootballboard.com

Contact info for businesses that you think would be a good sponsor with their

  1. contact name and number

  2. your name in the number.

For every contact name given you will be entered to win!

Thanks again. Go General’s!!

Game 5- Weekly Update

What a game last week! 70-7 with lots of touches by many players. We apologize that the live stream had many issues. The WiFi in the Franklin area was really bad. The audio was perfect so hopefully you could still tell what was happening in the game.

Grant vs Lincoln, in the Cross Town Clash/Battle of the Bridges! Players wear white uniforms when on the road (they decide on pants the day before)
Varsity Game 7pm at Ida B Wells (Lincoln’s field is under the new school they are building and the field will go where the school is when the school can be torn down.)

7 UNEXPECTED WAYS TO GET THE ODOR OUT OF YOUR SHOES

Freeze ‘em

Nope, your freezer isn’t just for boneless chicken breasts and ice cream sandwiches. It’s also for your smelly shoes, which have, quite honestly, seen too much: the locker room floors, the playgrounds, the office bathroom tile. So, how about this? Stick those shoes in a plastic bag and freeze them overnight. Bacteria breeds in warm, dark places, so the meditative shock of the cold air will kill the bacteria and stop the odor from getting worse. Bonus: this is a great way to cool off in the middle of a hot summer when your feet are hot and smelly. A win, win! Once your shoes are thawed, your feet (and your nose) will thank you.

Wash ‘em

Not all shoes are machine washable but canvas and fabric shoes are fine (like tennis shoes) and rubber or plastic shoes are good to go, too (like flip flops). If you’re not sure, be sure to read the care and cleaning directions. If your shoes have insoles, take them out and wash them separately so everything gets as clean as possible. It’s fine to wash both your shoes and their insoles with a regular load of clothes and to use a regular detergent, too. Just don’t use hot water or put your shoes in the dryer. Extreme heat may shrink your shoes or cause damage to any adhesives. Instead, use a long, warm wash and rinse cycle and air dry them using newspapers to soak up extra moisture.

Fill ‘em

Bacteria love a dark, moist environment so when your feet sweat in your shoes all day long, the bacteria thrive (props to you if you read that sentence without gagging). One solution to all that moisture? Fill your shoes up with kitty litter. It’ll draw out the moisture and, depending on the type of litter, neutralize the smell. Just remember to empty them out after a few hours, or else your feline friend might try to relieve themselves in your beloved sneakers, and that’s the absolute opposite effect we’re looking for. Shoutout to the cat people out there: you may show up to every function with cat hair all over your clothes, but at least your shoes won’t stink!

Air ‘em

Ever roll down the window for a nice breath of fresh air? Give your shoes the same courtesy by placing them by an open window for a day or so. It can do wonders for the inherent smells that they carry, and the UV rays from the sun will help kill the bacteria. Plus, it might just give you a waft of the outdoors, too. For those of you who wear the same shoes every day, consider getting a second pair so you can give your go-to’s the chance to dry out a couple of times a week.

Treat ‘em

If your shoes aren’t machine washable, it’s easy to make your own deodorizing spray. Just combine ½ cup water and ½ cup of white vinegar in a spray bottle and shake well. Apply a couple of sprays on the inside of your shoes and wipe the interiors with a cloth towel. Allow them to air dry before you wear them again. Or, if you don’t feel like getting crafty in the kitchen, move on over to the laundry room where a simple spray of Febreze Fabric will clean away odors super quickly. Pro tip: less is more! A quick spritz is all you need to get the full fresh effect.

Replace (part of) ‘em

If your shoes still smell funky even after a spritz of Febreze, the soul of your stink problem can likely be traced to the soles of your shoes. It makes sense, your feet are sweating a lot throughout the day and all that perspiration is sinking right down to the bottom. Net: it’s a good idea to replace the soles (or insoles, if you have them) of your shoes at least once a year. Insoles are pretty easy (and cheap) to replace, but you’ll need to find a cobbler to replace the actual soles of your shoes. If you do replace the soles, the planet will thank you (less waste in a landfill than throwing away your shoes) AND you can say you have a cobbler. Now that’s what we call adulting.

Dry ‘em

Next time you get caught in a spontaneous rainstorm, remember, moisture is the enemy. Sure, it may be more immediately top of mind to seek shelter or ring out your soaking wet shirt, but we encourage you to promptly address your wet shoes ASAP. It’ll only be a matter of time before that moisture turns to smelly mildew. Try this: take off your shoes and stuff them with either a couple of dry towels or some crinkled up newspaper to speed up the drying process. It’s a lot better than forgetting about your shoes in the closet, only to be greeted by their stink two days later.

IMPORTANT: Varsity Game Time & Location Change!

We have just been informed that the district has changed all PPS Football games in Portland,  this Friday to 4:00 pm. So sorry for this last minute change. Please let everyone know that you may have invited.

We will be the home game at Franklin against Franklin.

The live stream will hopefully be able to make the time change so parents can see the game if they can’t come early. Fingers crossed!

We still need 2 on chains for varsity game. Email Karmenvonarx@icloud.com

OSAA will always have the official times and locations.

Screen Shot 2021-09-22 at 4.57.29 PM.png

Dear PPS Volunteer:

Per Oregon’s COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for Teachers and School Staff, all volunteers will be required to provide proof of vaccination before volunteering in a PPS school or facility. The District will allow approved volunteers who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 to fill essential positions, and the principal/building administrator has full discretion on the use of volunteers in their building.

Volunteers will be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 by completing this form for yourself by October 15, 2021.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination must include the name of the person vaccinated, type of vaccine provided, date or dates given, and the name/location of the health care provider or site where the vaccine was administered.

Acceptable forms of documentation required to be uploaded as part of the volunteer application include:

a copy of a COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card (issued by the Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control & Prevention or WHO Yellow Card); OR

a photo, or scanned copy of the Vaccination Record Card as a separate document; OR

Physical or digital documentation of the COVID-19 vaccination from a health care provider.

If you do not submit documentation of COVID-19 vaccination, you will not be permitted to volunteer at a PPS school/facility or to have direct or indirect contact with students. The district is not collecting COVID-19 exemption paperwork from volunteers, but there may be opportunities to volunteer remotely, rather than in person. Please connect directly with the school office about non-contact volunteer activities.

Finally, to ensure student safety, Portland Public Schools expects all volunteers to follow District and CDC guidance around COVID-19 safety protocols. Any volunteer who fails to follow the protocols will no longer be welcome on District sites.

Make sure you have your COVID-19 documentation before you begin filling out this survey, which is meant only for you,

Follow this link to the Survey:  Take the Survey

If you have any questions, please reach out to Let's Talk where PPS invites you to send us your questions, concerns, suggestions, and or compliments.

If you have received the wrong form, please contact research@pps.net with the subject line "COVID-19 Volunteer Vaccine Attestation form correction".

With the recent note sent out about Vax cards on synergy and students putting on them synergy, we were not told how to do it. Best advice is if you can’t figure how to do it, you will need to call the office. They didn’t give us any info on how to do it, just that they would like it to be done.

Thanks!

Game 4- Weekly Update

Game 4 Weekly Update

From Coach Beck:

Sophomore-Junior or Senior...they should be taking a year round speed-strength class from Coach Beck. Freshman should be able to add in hopefully at the semester.

As we continue to get further into the school year, we are looking to gather more information based on vaccination status to help identify those students who do not need to quarantine if exposed to Covid-19 and don't show signs or symptoms of the virus.

Please upload your student-athletes vaccination card to synergy.  With this on file, if there is an exposure, and they are two weeks past their second shot date when the exposure happens, they will not need to quarantine unless they are showing any symptoms.

Varsity plays McDaniels (Madison) at 7pm 9/17

JV @ Southridge at 4:15 9/16

We will need help with the Varsity Game-

Needs for the game is:

Football 101

Mom Advice on HOW TO WATCH YOUR PLAYER! (What I have learned through the years!)

Most moms watching football have a hard time watching their player let alone finding them with all those Helmets on. The trick is finding out where they are standing on the field and at what time. Ask your player to draw you the line up and show you where they will be during the different lineups. This will make it easier to find them and once you do, watch them, not the ball. These are the different line ups they could be on.

Special teams- These players are on the field either to kick the ball or to receive it.This is fun to watch the players running at another player to block or tackle. Again don’t watch the ball or you will lose them.

Defense line up- This is the line up when we do not have the ball.

Offense line up- This is when our quarterback has the ball

It can get hard with them coming and going off the sidelines so often and is easy to lose them. Knowing their number and line up position helps a lot. For each play, do a quick scan and check the field and figure out if it is Special teams kicking off, Defense or Offense, then you can figure out where they should be in the line up.

Game Basics

Each team gets 4 tries to advance the ball 10 yards. If they do this within the 4 tries they get to move to the next 10 yards and so on, trying to get it as close as they can either throwing it or having a player run with the ball . Often times on the 4th try (if they are not sure they can advance the ball anymore,) the team with the ball will opt to kick the ball (punt) further down the field because the opposing team would get to start their 4 tries in the same spot. Which might be closer to their own goal. So kicking it makes it further away from the opponents goal.

You get 6 points for a touchdown if you advance the ball into the end of the field, and a chance to kick the ball through the goal posts for 1 extra point. If the team that just made the touchdown wants to, they can opt to run a play to get it across the line to earn 2 points. If rules are broken, teams get penalized by taking away yards that they had advanced.

Advice on how to clean white uniforms

-Always air dry, never put uniforms in dryer or stains will set.
-Do a cold water soak if there are stains for 30 min. Hot water will also set the stains.
-Scrub with a tooth brush (or soft bristle brush) and use Blue Dawn dish soap (4xs cleaning power) might need multiple scrubbing.
-Rinse by hand as well as possible and then run through regular washing machine cycle with powdered detergent (works better than liquids or pods) and powdered oxiclean.

Senior Parents

For senior night we will need you to start getting a few things sent in.  We would like parents or Guardians to send us a letter that can be read by the announcer (live stream and game) when your player is on the field. This is needed the week before senior night (usually our last Home Game which would be 10/29)

Things we need from Parents

  1. Please prepare a 20-30 second  letter by 10/22

  2. Tell us who your player is,

  3. How long he has been playing football.

  4.  His position, what he lives about the game etc.

  5. Some love and good wishes.

  6. Name of Parents/Guardians and family names who may be on field with player for Senior night.

Parents and family will go on field to be presented and honored before the game (any family the Senior wants.) This is a really fun night to celebrate our Seniors and the families that support them.

Also Needed- Info from each Senior

Hi Seniors! I need from these players ASAP-

John Jay
Shawn Hindrum

Also Big Thanks to the Segel family who paid for the 2 meals for the last game for the whole team and coaches!

-Donations for food for your Varsity Player are still being collected. We travel for every game so it’s the easiest way to get your player the fuel he needs.  Click below to donate now.

-Don’t forget to send a water bottle with your player for every practice and game. We are not allowed to have communal water for them and there has been a lot of cramping issues.

Week 3 Update

Hi All,

The Jamboree was a great warm up to the season and to see what we need to work on!  All Varsity home Games will be @ Marshal. Please also make sure that your player gets speed and strength training on his schedule if they do not already have it. It is expected that athletes take this class.

This Friday the Varsity game is against Silverton, in Silverton at 7pm. Traffic can be hairy at that time so plan accordingly.

Masks will be required for spectators.

We recommend cash for the gate. Not totally sure on their pricing but no more than $10 per adult or $5 for students.

There will be a Heavy Snack before the game and a meal after the game, for on the way home that will be provided for the boys. If you have not yet turned in money for your varsity players meals please do so soon at https://www.friendsofgrantfootball.com/give

Put players name and “for food” in notes if you remember.

Football-Week 2

From Coach:

Dear Parents - Players and Community,

Just finished up week #1 of official practices. We and most of the rest of the state are dealing with a helmet shortage.

Our new helmets are supposed to be delivered this week. Players have been very patient with this process. COVID and the short turnaround from the last season have played a role in this situation. Districts and vendors are working on this problem daily.

Fundraising - no one's favorite word. We are selling a variety of tumblers. I have heard that some people don't like the cost of the items...but I want to throw my two cents in. It doesn't matter what the fundraising product is...gold cards or cookie dough...etc, etc....they all sell for $25 or more. Just chalk it up to inflation I suppose. The purpose is to trade out products for financial support, basically getting a free tumbler with donation. If you would like to support financially in another way...please communicate with Karmen von Arx our Football Booster Club President.

Admin@friendsofgrantfootball.com

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Parent meeting yesterday...it was good seeing everyone. If you have any questions please let me know.

We have a very challenging Jamboree schedule. The Varsity players will be participating in the Jamboree this Friday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m. vs. Jefferson (always a tough and talented team) and Camas High School out of Washington (2 x State Champions recently) following the Jefferson contest. All games will be played at Ida B. Wells HS and no admission will be charged. Itinerary times will be communicated to players this week - arrival - departure, etc.

Saturday we will have the JV Jamboree at Jefferson High School starting at approximately 10 a.m. No information has been communicated at this time.

One item for future reference....August is not a good time to be taking family vacations if your son/daughter is playing football or a fall sport. I understand that for some people that is the only time that their schedule will allow that time. However...playing high school football is a short period of time in a player's life. It does not help the team/program to have any player missing important time, if you want to be as successful as you can be. :)

And yes....we practice on Labor Day...always have...normal practice time.

Practice Schedule this week (schedule can be changed due to District mandates / Air Quality or Extreme Heat):

Monday: 4-6:15 (Full Pads)
Tuesday: 4-6:15 (Full Pads)
Wednesday: 4-6:15 (Shells = helmet and shoulder pads)
Thursday: 4-6:15 (Shells) (Coaches meeting after)
Friday: Jamboree - Itinerary out early this week (Varsity) / JV Practice: TBA
Saturday: JV Jamboree at Jefferson HS - itinerary out early this week

The following Monday: Practice will start at 4 p.m.....but may go to 7:15ish

(Silverton game week). JV Game Schedule not out yet.

Thank you for all you do for your kids!

Coach Beck

Number 1 needed ASAP! 1-2 filmers for Varsity HUDL. We have the equipment, just need someone to commit to a training and be able to do the Friday night games.

If there is 2 filmers they can be switched each game. Best for a non varsity parent to step up and help. Will Pay $50 per game.

PIL Golf Tourney

Please consider supporting the PIL Golf tourney. The funds are much needed especially to our youth programs and high schools. It’s a lot of fun and great way to get out with friends.

From the Club

Our non profit, Friends of Grant Football was started as a way to bring our inner city program the same advantages of other area high schools, with the help of our District. It can be overwhelming for a program of our size to keep up in the most expensive sport ever created!! Especially having a large population of underprivileged kids that play football and men’s basketball than any sport at Grant. Our District bends over backwards working to help teams, but they have a lot of need around the city. Grant is in the unique position that we have families that can and do help and our players witness this service to our community . We have the benefit of having a highly diverse team experience and we are showing that it can be done very successfully.

Coaches

In order to run a safe program, great coaches are needed. And that means for every position. Our players have such a low injury rate because we average 1 coach to every 7 players. Every player has constant feedback and teaches on correct hitting procedure through extensive heads up training.  Our district is at the forefront in getting kids in early to start the process of playing football safely, starting at the youth level, but they can only afford so many coaches at the high school level. For those players starting later we have THE BEST coaches around. Coaching staff and training is a large part of our budget.

Buses

Bus’s fees are paid out of the football school fund. Because we need a bus for every game this adds up. So the club helps pay for other things because of this expense

Technology

Football has over $10,000 put into headsets, Hudl equipment,  iPads, cameras, and we are purchasing a new tablet that can be used on the field to send plays out more quickly to players. All this needs to be upgraded as  the years go by and things start breaking.

We also have $10,000 in live stream equipment and computers to help in getting business sponsorships for the team so that we can promote them and provide the service for families that can’t come.

Food

Because we travel for every game with no home field

this takes away the down time that the players would normally have time to get food. High school boys are not the best at planning ahead and if we want to give them the best shot, they need gas in the tank. We as a club have provided this but the expense has become something that we can no longer manage so we are asking parents to pay what they would for the 9-12games they will have at $50 per Varsity player. We also would love it if families that can, will pay something forward for the players that can’t afford it. We have a lot of families hurting also from Covid. We will continue doing lite  meals as long as we have the money in, to do it.

Please pay at https://www.friendsofgrantfootball.com/give

Pictures

John Davenport is a professional photographer that does all the school photos. This is the link that will have the team photos soon. Check back every once in a while to see them. https://www.foreyesphotos.com/f741708162

He will do a couple games for the club but we would love to have him at a few more and to do a couple JV games to get action shots.

Ugh! Fundraising

We really don’t want to have to ask families for money. We have a great sponsorship program in place to support businesses in our community. How you could help without giving money yourself is to forward us a business for us to contact that you personally know or think would help.

Official Start of Practice!

From Coach Beck:

Dear Parents and Players,

This past Saturday we had a good day with bonding...fun Olympic Team Competitions and leadership activities. Thank you to the PIL for sponsoring the shirts and food. We also issued equipment to those players who could participate. Players who still need practice equipment will get the equipment after practice Monday. Also a big thank you to the parents who ordered and served the food and cleaned up! Thank you to all and the coaches for making it a great day.

There is a national issue regarding helmet delivery and reconditioning. The league administration has a good plan in place so we can get the practice in equipment we need.  New helmets should be in around Tuesday this week.

This Wednesday at 10 a.m. will be our one time a year player fundraising activity. Please see the zoom link below - ALL Players are expected to participate:

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/2089498639

Hello Grant Football Family

Welcome to the Official start of Football! We have had a terrific turnout this summer and can feel the excitement for the new season. With all the ups and downs of life in the last year, it will be great to get our athletes back into the rhythm of the Game.

News for Fundraising.
Last year we had great success with Snapraise for much needed funds for the long extended season. The difficulty we are in this season, is that we are doing 2 seasons in one calendar year. Businesses have limited yearly funds to donate, but our expenses are still the same. So we will need help to keep the program funded. We feel it is too much to hit all families again with SnapRaise in one year, so only our freshman players will be doing that.

Players will be doing a Fundraiser this week with coaches on zoom  and we hope all families will participate. We have a high population of families struggling financially right now in the program and football is by far the most expensive sport in high school.

*We are hoping that families that are financially able can help us out with an immediate issue that has come up.  The club will need to purchase new headsets because ours are antiquated and this has hurt the teams coaches ability to communicate on the field and with the coaches in the box. We can no longer rely on area WiFi that is inundated with large numbers of spectators. The cost of this set is $5200. This is on top of funds we will need to raise to cover our team operating expenses. If your family is willing and able, please contact Karmen von Arx for information as address to send checks or pay at our link

And put headsets in the notes.

Keep in mind that boosters has not been active for almost 2 years so we have few options for help.

OSAA recommends to Districts to not wear masks when competing in sports either indoors or outdoors.

So far PIL agrees.

Communications

These emails are the best way for us to communicate with the families, so please make sure to scan this for information each week.  This really helps so that we aren’t stuck answering a lot of emails for info covered or that can be asked of your athlete. Thanks in advance!!

Please sign up on our Facebook page Friends of Grant Football and Twitter Grant Football

Volunteers and $ to feed the players
Will be needed all throughout the season.

Because we do not have a home field, we always travel. This means the boys don’t have the chance to usually get something to eat after school. This becomes a huge financial strain on the team. Although we don’t fundraise for this, it is assumed you will contribute for your kids food regardless. For Varsity, the expected food donation is $50 per player, again this is what you would pay to feed your player anyway, just easier to organize by collecting up front. If you can afford to pay more for players that can’t pay, please do.

Thanks,

https://www.friendsofgrantfootball.com/give

Put food and players name in the notes. (Done at the end)

-JV parents will need to organize amongst themselves to have snacks each week to be delivered to the school (usually by 2 and can be left in the office for the coach or players to pick up) for them to have on the bus.

-Varsity will have meals in the cafeteria except for the first 2 games that they will be traveling.

First Game September 3rd, Varsity Volunteer opportunities for "Football team help" are now open.
