Can you Help Us?

We are really struggling to get sponsors for this season, since we will have 2 seasons in one year. Sponsorship is how we earn more than HALF of our operating budget for the football team.

How you can help!

Send us names and contact info of some solid business contacts. Either ones you know personally or places your family frequents in our community.

Email admin@friendsofgrantfootball.com and we will contact them.

Thanks so much and let’s go Generals!!

Season parent help

During the season we will need each players family to volunteer to help with various jobs and donations of food. Varsity Families are not asked to work during Varsity games unless working on the field with chain crew and is something they want to do. But there are lots of other ways Varsity parents are expected to help.

JV does help run the Varsity games.

We will be sending out a volunteer link before the first game. You can sign up then, but just wanted to put the expectation out there that more help is needed. We don’t want to burn out the ones that already help a lot.

Many hand make light work

Jobs include working the:

 1. Snack Shack- JV families will be needed to man the snack shack during the Friday night Varsity games. 3-4 parents per game

2.Chain Crew- 4 dads or players to do the Chains and down markers for home Thursday JV Games and another crew for home Friday night Varsity games

 3. Live stream crew- need help from anyone comfortable working a camera and equipment. We can train you and the crew is lots of fun.

Also anyone with computer and graphics help is really needed. Contact Karmen at karmenconarx@icloud.com

 4. Scoreboard Operator and Announcer for Varsity Games. Fun and exciting and training available.

 5. Help feeding the team- Varsity parents 3 needed for each game.

6.Providing Snacks for the team for the bus rides

 7. Help with the Team Awards Night at the end of the season.

Thank you,

Friends of Grant Football

End of Season Update

Hello Grant Football Family,

As we closed out the season in this very odd year, it was so endearing to watch our players show their love and appreciation for each other after the game. Those watching the live stream did not get to see this special moment, but it made us so proud as a program. This was a very special team and our senior leadership will be missed next year.

Since so many have asked how Henry Cansler is doing, we wanted to let everyone know that his Surgery went well today and he  is so grateful for everyone's well wishes. I am sure he would love some company from the team at home, just make sure to check first.

A Note from Coach Beck

Parents and Players:

I want to strongly encourage each player to please participate in multiple sports. This is the very best training ground for athletic improvement (besides a coordinated speed-strength program). During this current season...if you are not playing baseball - then please participate in track. There is no better sport to build speed - jumping ability - coordination and athleticism. Currently we have Brennick - Timon - Jordan - Max - Lazlo - Jae'Sean working out with the track team.  We usually have a majority of the football players participating. Please sign up on Family ID. The season is very short. And there are multiple football coaches involved in coaching track (Melson - von Arx - Beck). BTW - all of our football players in the last few years that have gone on to play college football have ALL participated in track.

In the next season (Winter sports)....if you are not participating in basketball, then we strongly encourage you to participate in wrestling. Leverage - mental toughness and flexibility and one on one skills are greatly increased in this sport.

Participating in multiple sports builds many skills and keeps players engaged.
If anyone has any questions - then please contact me.
We will have a year-round calendar out within the next month and information on our banquet which will most likely be some time towards the end of May.
If your player still needs to turn in uniforms and equipment - please contact Coach Beck before your student body account gets charged fees.

End of Year Awards Banquet

We will have an update coming soon about the end of the year banquet. The event will most likely be outside on the lower commons turf with all the players and parents towards the end of May.

Many Thanks

There are so many thanks to go out to the Generals Army this season. It was a huge undertaking in providing a live stream for all Varsity and JV games. So I would first off like to thank

-Geno Zaharie for making that happen. He has worked hard for us even without a kid on the team. Geno’s knowledge, and patience for teaching us all how it works was the best!  We hope to have him at the AWARDS night so we can all thank him for his time and talents.

-Mark Going, Varsity Team Photographer Extraordinaire! So many wonderful memories to last a lifetime because of his time and talents, not just on the game field but sitting at the computer for hours going through everything.

Week 6 Update

Hello Grant Football Family,

What a great turnout we had to honor our Senior players and their families. It was a wonderful night and the big win against our rivals Jefferson was the cherry on top!  Grant is again the PIL Champions!
***MANDATORY End of Season Gear Check-in will be Monday at 4:15 p.m they will need to turn in Gear to get their Championship shirt.

Varsity-
Good News!! Coach Beck and our AD Chris LaCarubba  were able to get very limited spectators to our Varsity and JV Mountainside games, after a lot of cajoling 😜

Grant @ Mountainside High School Friday, April 9th at 7 pm. (30-minute drive with no traffic)

*****must enter visitors side from the parking lot on 175th Ave

-Seniors and Juniors will be given 2 wristbands. -Sophomores and Freshman that have been asked to suit up for the game will be given 1 wristband.

-Your player will have to give us the wristband recipient's name and it has to match the name on the list during check-in. Give at practice or text coach Von Arx

-Any wristbands leftover will be put in a lottery for one more if too many people ask. We will pick at 2 pm Wednesday for varsity and are prioritizing Parents/Guardians in the lottery, so they will get in over a grandparent or friend/girlfriend, Senior parents also take top priority.

Must send info for list to coach von Arx (503) 841-7008. Please include:

  1. Players name and uniform #

  2. Your name and cell number

  3. Let us know if you are interested in trying to get an extra (this will be how we contact you that your name is on the list from the lottery

Week 5 Update!

Hello Grant Football Family!

We wanted to make sure to tell all of our families how much we appreciate your support with the Snapraise fundraiser. It was very successful and we made our goal and then some. What a crazy year and the boys have made the best of it, what great sons you have all raised. Incentive prizes will go out at practice today for those that chose them when signing up.

Photos

All photos and live-streamed games and recorded games can be found on our website at

Don’t forget to check out Mark Goings link for the most recent pics from the Clackamas game. They are fantastic and a lot of them.

We had John Davenport go out for the last JV game and get some shots of the players also. You can check his link out.

Help needed ASAP for Jefferson Varsity Game

We will need to cover 2 more spots chain crew and 1 more for the gate crew for Saturday’s game at Franklin at 5:15. We had some JV families do it last week (who are also doing the Box this week)  and they had a great time. Thanks for your help!  Please email karmenvonarx@icloud.com if you are able to help this week. JV parents normally handle these duties so varsity parents can watch.

Varsity

This week’s Varsity game will be against Jefferson @ 6pm at Franklin again. Gates open as soon as the game ahead of us is cleared out. There may be some waiting or it may be wide open. Hard to tell. Grant vs Jeff is always a fun game with lots of energy against our rivals. We will also be honoring all our Seniors. Please come early to show support to our Seniors and their parents. Keep in mind parking is not easy, so allow for extra time

Spectators will need wristbands to get in and only 4 per athlete so if senior families need more you may be able to get extras from Players that don’t need them. Let coach von Arx know if you need help getting tickets.

Evonarx@comcast.net

Varsity Bowl Game

The Bowl Game will be Friday, April 9th at 7 pm at Mountainside High School. We will let you know if they are allowing spectators next week.

Seniors

Senior families will need to arrive no later than 5:30 pm. The ceremony will begin at 5:45.

Senior Parents

The powers that be have not decided if they will let parents on the track for Senior night that is this Saturday before the Jefferson game at 5:45. Please Arrive at 5:30 to line up just in case to be introduced with your player (listen for an announcement over the loudspeaker of where to go.)

Most likely will be lining up along the track, socially distanced against the front of stands. Or up in the backs of the stands facing the track, along the rail.

Please don’t be late. We won’t be able to wait. Parking at Franklin can be scarce so allow for the time there. Feel free to bring banners or balloons for your player

In the event that only seniors will be announced we will have photos taken after the game with your player. So sorry that the pandemic has made this tradition different this year for our seniors. Our AD is working hard to make it happen.

We would like parents or Guardians to send us a letter that can be read by the announcer (live stream and game) when your player is on the field. This is needed ASAP.

Things we need from Parents:

  • Please prepare a 20-30 second letter by April 1st.

  • Tell us who your player is,

  • How long he has been playing football

  • His position

  • Some love and good wishes.

  • Name of Parents or Guardians and family names who may be on the field with the player for Senior night.

Please send the letter to Karmenvonarx@icloud.com

JV Game

The JV game will be at Aloha high school this Thursday at 4:30pm. We will be live-streaming the game, there are no spectators as far as we know.

Next game at Mountainside on 4/7 at 4:30. No spectators.

Media Guide link for this season

Better late than never. Here is the digital version. With things so uncertain, they couldn’t get it out before the season. All rosters and teams for this season are in it.

Coaches Gift

We have been so lucky to have coaches that have been able to work with the boys since October in this odd year. Please feel free to donate towards coaches gifts that will be given at the end-of-the-season awards banquet.

Thank you,

Grant Football Update - March 26th

Hello Grant Football Family-

Important! Wristbands for spectators at CC game

The district has decided that the easiest way to keep track of everyone is to have players give the (4) names and emails or phone numbers for each person that will get a wristband before the Game. They HAVE TO have these names on the list in order to get the wristband at practice today. The players can text the list to coach von Arx at (503) 841-7008or being to practice.

We still really need 2 parents for Chains and 2 for the gate. JV or Varsity

Please contact Karmenvonarx@icloud.com if you can help.

Senior Parents

We have had very few send in anything for their Seniors for senior night so we will not be doing the videos (we will not have time to put all the last-minute ones in the live stream.) Instead, we would like parents to send us a letter that can be read by the announcer (live stream and game) when your player is on the field. This is needed ASAP. Senior night will be against Jefferson.

Things we need from Parents

  1. Please prepare a 20-30 letter by March 30th

  2. Tell us who your player is,

  3. How long he has been playing football,

  4. His position

  5. Some love and good wishes.

  6. Name of Parents or Guardians and family names who may be on field with player for Senior night.

  7. Please send letter to Karmenvonarx@icloud.com

Survey that needs to be filled out by parents and players please

The NFHS is embarking on an important research effort, in cooperation with the NFL, into the participation and perception trends in high school football.  (see attached)

The NFHS has asked state associations to help facilitate a national survey that will be compiled by UpMetrics to better understand the state of high school football nationally.   Data from the survey will be shared with all state associations for distribution.

The surveys have been individualized for each group and links are listed below.   It is our hope that you will be able to use your communication tools to reach out and provide everyone an opportunity to give input.

Please distribute the following links accordingly – the deadline to complete the survey is April 1, 2021.

Mid-Spring Break Update

Hello Grant Football Family,

Varsity

We are excited that varsity parents will be able to watch the game this Saturday. The Grant vs Central game time has been changed to 6 pm at Franklin. Players will be receiving wristbands at Friday’s practice (we think 4 but not sure).

There will be a game going on before ours, so parking will be difficult and we will not be able to get into stands until the other spectators have left. Coming super early won’t really be necessary. It will be sunny and warm at 6 pm, but will get very cold fast, dress warmly!

All spectators will need to come to the west entrance by the stands, wear masks and sit 6 ft from other groups.

 JV Games

This Thursday at 4:30 at Westview. We have the opportunity to have 2 parents allowed at the JV Game. We have to have a parent willing to check parents in and gather contact info. Players names will be checked off as each parent comes in and they will be very strict about this. Parents may get there 30 min early. Please let Karmen know if you are willing to take the job at

Karmenvonarx@icloud.com.

Help Needed at Game

Big help is needed!!  Because it is spring break we are having a hard time filling these positions for the game. JV parents are preferred so Varsity parents can watch the game. Please let me know ASAP so I don’t have to make a bunch of phone calls! Please email back ASAP if you can help.

1-for scoreboard- not too complicated but experience helps
1-announcer- needs to know football.
1-spotter (for announcer,)
4-for chains-Varsity dads get first pick
4-gates, need 4 JV Parents. I don’t believe you need to be there for the whole game. Just the beginning into the first quarter

Team meals and snack

We are bummed to say because of Covid concerns we will not be able to do meals or snacks again until it’s approved. Please have your player pack snacks and water, it can be a long night.

Players of the Week #3 vs. Clackamas:

Congrats to our players of the week!

Offensive Player: Luke Borchardt / Jorell Bigham
M.V.P.: Jackson Montfort
Defensive Player: Brennick Beck
Special Team Player: Jamison Price
Lineman of the Game: Kaden Segel
Practice Player of the Week: Karnell Deadmon
Underclassmen Skill Player of the Week: Dakota Hoffert / Marshune Waters
Underclassmen Lineman of the Week: Stephen del Guice

Senior Night

We are hoping we will be able to do an on-field Senior Night before the Jefferson Game. Videos or letters this week!  If you don’t feel comfortable doing a video for your player, please just send me a letter (up to 25-30 seconds long when reading it) in an email and we will have the announcer read it.

Things we need in the video or letter from Parents

  1. Please prepare a 20-30 second video or letter to be read by March 28th telling us who your player is, how long he has been playing football, his position, and some love and good wishes. We will be playing them on the live stream for senior night, and reading while on the field if we can.

  2. We need the names and info of Parents or Guardians and family names along with player name

  3. Please send videos, letter, and info to Karmenvonarx@icloud.com

Awards

We do have a plan to have an outdoors award banquet about a month after the season, so we have time to get all the awards and letters for new varsity players

  • Are you interested in chipping in for the coach’s gifts? Go to this link to donates and in the notes put “coach’s gifts.” We have 13! Thanks! https://www.friendsofgrantfootball.com/give

If you get a chance, send a thank you note to the PIL. Our District AD and his staff have been working overtime to make sure our kids had a season this year, in what has possibly been the most stressful year of their careers.

Go Generals,
Friends of Grant Football

Week of March 22nd Update

Hello Grant Football Family,

Great News! PIL is allowing spectators and visitors at PIL games! There will be wristbands handed out to each player for the Central Game and Jeff game (we are waiting to hear if we can do a Senior Night at the Jeff Game)

****No visitors are allowed at the Clackamas game. Clackamas is only allowing their families to watch in person. If parents show up to watch at the fence we risk them closing the game down. We want to be good stewards of the game so we get invited to play other, better-ranked teams.****

Pictures

Pics are in from the Roosevelt Game: we are so grateful to Mark for getting these images of our Varsity players. What a gift it is. Please make sure to credit Mark Going for any pictures posted or shared.

https://www.markgoing.com/GrantFootball/Grant-Football-3-13-21/

You can copy these pics to your phone or computer. When you tap the individual picture on iPhone there is an arrow pointing down tap it and it will ask “view or download”

Push “view” and then you can go to the lower middle of the screen and tap the box with an arrow pointing up. Scroll down to “save image” for it to save to your camera roll in your phone. Probably similar for other phones. For best resolution, download and save to your computer

SnapRaise:

With SnapRaise we have met our fundraising goals to cover our big expenses this year!  Thanks so much to all your Friends and Family. We are so grateful for the sacrifices in time and money that many people make to give these fantastic young men these memories.

Help Needed Senior Parents

I have only received 2 of the sixteen.

We are looking for senior parents to help plan a special senior send-off for our Senior players. I have had only one parent contact me to help.

Grant Generals Football Update

Hello, Friends and Families of Grant Football!

What a week of excitement finished off by some great football! In normal seasons, there is more movement of players between teams because the JV game and Varsity games are usually not on the same day. This week’s games will be:

JV at Sunset @4pm on Thursday

******GAME TIME CHANGE- Varsity at Roosevelt @5:30 on Sat.******

Please email Karmenvonarx@icloud.com if you would be willing to put snacks together for the ride home for 40 players. Need one parent each to drop off at buses for JV and Varsity teams. .

Game Streaming

(Still, no spectators allowed but we saw many parents at Barlow lining the fences. PIL may be more strict about this.)

We will be training JV parents on how to do the stream with the Varsity system. Filmers are still getting used to how to use all equipment so please bear with them. In case it doesn’t go well, Sunset is also streaming the JV game with no announcers. We don’t know the quality but you can check out both. There is no replay with the Sunset live stream.

*Grant JV and Varsity stream

https://www.friendsofgrantfootball.com/gsn

*Sunset Stream
www.6thBoy.com

This will take you to the correct YouTube destination used for all home football games, including Freshmen, JV and Varsity.

Streaming will start approximately 15 min before kickoff. We will only announce Varsity games. The feed will disappear after the game and not be available for replay afterward.
Due to copyright laws, YouTube (...and Facebook, others) mutes any streams that contain published music so we will be trying hard to separate announcing from any music played in the stadium so we don't lose the audio feed (it's still possible if YouTube "hears" enough recognizable music).

Grant vs Barlow Players of the Week - Week#1

Offensive Player of the Week: Timon Davis
Defensive Player of the Week: Jamison Price
MVP: Max von Arx
Lineman of the Week: Ajani Jones / Simon Porter
Special Team Player of the Week: Colin O'Rourke
Practice Player of the Week: Jackson Montfort
Underclassmen of the Week: Austin Yue

Help Needed Senior Parents

We are looking for senior parents to help plan A special senior send-off for our Senior players. I have had only one parent contact me to help.

Things we need from Parents

  1. Please prepare a 20-30 video by March video telling us about your player and any good wishes. We will be playing them on the live stream.

  2. We need the names and info of Parents or Guardians and family names along with player name and years playing football

  3. Please send videos and info to Karmenvonarx@icloud.com

Friends of Grant Football wanted to announce that our Youth President Josh Haley will be retiring. Josh has spent more than a decade involved with the youth of our community, even when his children were no longer involved. This takes a specials love of the game but also a great desire to make a positive impact in kid’s lives. Friends of Grant Football would like to extend our thanks and appreciation for his years of hard work, and dedication.

With this opening for Youth President, we are looking for someone that has a love of the game to help keep the youth program strong. If there is a parent from the program, coach, or someone you would like to nominate  or you would like to find out more info please email karmenvonarx@icloud.com

We will be sending out information to the 8th grader players after the high school season ends. In the meantime, please have players you may know sign up on our website to get a feel for the program, watch some games and start getting emails about all things Grant Football

SnapRaise

Our SnapRaise fundraiser is getting closer to our goal of $15,000

Thanks so much to all the friends and family that have participated so far! We still have 1 week left so parents sharing on their social media or putting up flyers at work make a big difference. Football costs 4xs as much as every other sport in high school and fees are the same for all. Football also has the highest participation of disadvantaged youth than any sport at Grant. We have coaches that have spent a lot of extra time training this year, then the normal season. Businesses also don’t have the funds for sponsorships this year. So our fundraising efforts are very important.

Thank you!!

This week has been a flurry of exciting activity getting everyone and every detail ready for the Big Games this Saturday. Coaches will let players know what time they will need to be at the buses. It is a long day so plan on sending snacks with your players. Players need to also bring their own water, there is no communal water on the field.

We returned the helmet Masks that we purchased as Oregon is the only state in the country that has not approved them. So the club has purchased black Gator masks for all the players. We are hoping we don’t have to purchase many more so please help your player keep track of theirs. Just Kidding, we know that’s not possible😂.

Volunteers needed

We will sometimes need a 4 person crew for Chains (No experience needed, they will show you before the game) when we host the game. Please email back if you can help with this. You will need to fill out the background check info. Takes about 5minutes and a few days to be approved. Need is for JV and Varsity (Varsity senior parents will have priority)

https://www.pps.net/volunteer

Do you think you would be a good live stream filmer?

We need a helper for Kurt Borchardt who will be managing the live streaming for JV. (No experience needed) This will get you on the field for every game!

Our SnapRaise fundraiser is getting closer to our goal.

Thanks so much to all the friends and family that have participated so far! We still have 2 weeks left so parents sharing on their social media or putting up flyers at work make a big difference.

Thank you!!

LIVE-STREAMING FOR VARSITY

We are planning on live streaming and have the link ready to go so please take note of it. It can also be found on our Friends of Grant Football website under GSN (Grant Sports Network) in the menu section

 https://www.friendsofgrantfootball.com/gsn

LIVE-STREAMING FOR JV

We are still working on this. Most likely will be the same link or a YouTube live-streaming link depending on many factors.

Senior Parents:

Because there will be no spectators at the games we want to do something for the Seniors because they will miss out on having a Senior night. We want to make it as special as we can. Let us know if you have any ideas or suggestions. We may be able to do something at a specific practice and/or make videos for each player for the live stream. Let me know if you are interested in helping make this happen.

Fundraisers

Our SnapRaise Fundraiser is off to a good start and we are halfway to our goal. Please remind players that have not imputed their 20 emails to their profile to do so soon as possible. Parents, would you consider putting up this flyer to put up at work? Many want to support these kids especially in this tough year, they just don’t know where the need is.

Here is a link you can also send out in emails or on your Facebook page if you don’t want to do it under your player’s name.

Grant Boosters Event

Grant Boosters has come up with a fun creative way to have an event, raise money, and still stay at home.

Calling all sluthers! Do you find yourself solving the mystery or murder every time you Netflix? Do you want to have fun with the community and raise some money for our kids this year? Do you have Cabin fever and feel like you may murder someone? Then come play a virtual murder mystery game instead and spare a victim!

Since we are STILL unable to gather in person for our annual Grant Gives Trivia Night, we have organized a really fun Murder Mystery E-vent with our friends from Evenchilada!

When: Saturday, March 13, 2021, 5:30p - 7:30p

Where: The Interwebs (https://evenchilada.com/)

As usual, all proceeds go to Grant clubs and teams. We've been funding sports teams and activities throughout the pandemic, and we need to refill the coffers. So put on your detective hats, solve a mystery, and our kids do something besides stare at screens!!!

SnapRaise! and Practice Update

Hello Grant Football Friends and Families,

*Please make note of the Saturday practice and pictures change to 8:15 am

*SnapRaise Campaign has kicked off and started today.

We are making preparations for live streaming the games and hoping we make enough from our fundraiser in SnapRaise to cover everything we need this year. Please make sure your player has added his emails in on his SnapRaise profile, this has been a very tough year for donations. If your family can’t donate, we completely understand, we just need as much help as we can get.  Link below.

Friends of Grant Football has received some very generous donations from some of our families that will cover the masks we ordered. Thank you so much, they will be here soon

Letter from Coach Beck:

Dear Parents - Players and Boosters,

First of all, let me say how excited we are for being able to have a football season this year. The pandemic has been extremely hard and challenging for everyone. The resilience of our community is to be commended.

I want to also take this opportunity to say how grateful I am to be the head football coach in the Grant community. I do not take this responsibility lightly. I am blessed to get to help our outstanding student-athletes...and lucky enough to be associated with outstanding parents, coaches and community members. We have a long-standing tradition of excellence and it shows in the classroom and on the athletic fields and courts.

Also - I want to thank our State Representatives and State Senators who worked tirelessly to help lobby for our kids to have an opportunity to compete in athletics this year. I was lucky to get to work with Representative Janelle Bynum who wrote an Op-Ed that appeared in the Oregonian that showed how important it is to have gym class for kids. Representative Bynum worked across the aisle with Representative Shelly Bohart from Albany...and with Representative Leon Gonzales of Woodburn. I also appreciated the words of encouragement and support from State Senator Mr. Lew Fredricks.

Our football schedule is still fluid...but District Athletic Directors are working very hard to finish up our final schedule and for a limit of 120 people on-site....but it is a better alternative than no season at all.

Our schedule for the remainder of the week is this (but remember...it may change given weather or other unforeseen circumstances):

Wednesday 2/24:  Practice in Helmets...3:50-6:00 p.m.

Thursday 2/25:   in Shells (Helmet - Shoulder Pads)...3:50-6:00 p.m.

Friday 2/26:  f .  in Full Pads...3:50-6:00 p.m.

Saturday 2/27:  Game Uniform and Decal Issue at 8:15 a.m. / Team and Individual Pictures at 9 a.m. / Helmet only Practice at 10 a.m. - 11:15 p.m.

Sunday: Off

Monday 3/1: Practice in Full Pads...3:50-6 p.m.

Tuesday 3/2: Practice in Full Pads...3:50-6 p.m.

Wednesday 3/3: Practice in Shells...3:50-6 p.m.

Thursday 3/4: Practice in Shells...3:50-5:30 p.m.

Friday 3/5: Varsity Game vs. TBD

If anyone has any questions, concerns, or input...please contact me,

John Beck
